Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing addiction treatment can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re unsure where to begin. At Sober First Recovery, we want veterans and their families to have clear, honest information about our programs and what to expect. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive about treatment, admissions, insurance, and recovery.

What addictions do you treat?
We treat a wide range of substance use disorders, including addiction to:
- Alcohol
- Opioids
- Fentanyl
- Heroin
- Prescription opioids
- Cocaine
- Methamphetamine
- Benzodiazepines
- Marijuana
- Other drugs
Treatment plans are individualized to address each person’s specific needs.
What is Medical Detox?
Medical Detox is often the first step in recovery. During detox, licensed medical professionals monitor clients around the clock while helping them safely manage withdrawal symptoms before beginning ongoing treatment. Detox services are available when medically necessary before transitioning into residential care.
What is Residential Treatment?
Residential Treatment provides 24 hour care in a structured setting where clients live onsite while participating in therapy, medical care, relapse prevention planning, and wellness activities. This level of care allows veterans to focus completely on recovery away from everyday distractions.
What is a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?
PHP is a structured treatment program that provides intensive therapy during the day while allowing clients greater independence than residential care. It is often recommended after residential treatment or for individuals who need a high level of clinical support without overnight care.
What is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?
An Intensive Outpatient Program offers continued therapy and recovery support while allowing clients to maintain work, school, or family responsibilities. IOP is commonly used as a step down from higher levels of care while helping clients continue building healthy coping skills.
Do you offer virtual addiction treatment?
Yes. Sober First Recovery provides Virtual Addiction Treatment through secure telehealth services. This option allows veterans to participate in therapy and recovery support from home when appropriate for their treatment needs.
Do you treat PTSD and other mental health conditions?
Yes. Many veterans experience both addiction and mental health conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, or trauma. Our dual diagnosis approach addresses substance use and mental health together to support long term recovery.
What therapies are used during treatment?
Depending on your treatment plan, therapy may include:
- Individual Therapy
- Group Therapy
- Family Therapy
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Trauma informed therapy
- Relapse prevention planning
Our clinical team selects therapies based on your individual needs.
How long does treatment last?
Treatment length varies for every veteran. Factors such as the severity of addiction, progress in treatment, and personal recovery goals help determine how long someone remains in each level of care. Our clinical team regularly reviews treatment plans and recommends the most appropriate next steps.
Can I use my insurance?
Sober First Recovery accepts most PPO insurance plans. Our admissions team can verify your insurance benefits, explain your coverage, and discuss available treatment options before admission.
Can veterans travel from another state?
Yes. Sober First Recovery serves veterans from across the United States. Our admissions team can help coordinate travel and explain the admission process before you arrive.
What should I bring to treatment?
Most clients should bring comfortable clothing, personal hygiene items, approved medications, identification, insurance information, and other approved personal belongings. Our admissions team will provide a complete packing list before your arrival.
Can my family be involved?
Yes. Family support is an important part of recovery for many veterans. Depending on your treatment plan, family members may participate in family therapy, education, and communication sessions to help strengthen relationships and support long term recovery.
What happens after I complete treatment?
Recovery continues after formal treatment ends. Before discharge, our team develops an aftercare plan that may include:
- Outpatient treatment
- Virtual therapy
- Continued counseling
- Recovery support groups
- Relapse prevention planning
- Community resources
Our goal is to help veterans continue building healthy habits after completing treatment.
